L.A. Confidential Intro Remake

Remaking the intro to the 1997 film, L.A. Confidential.

The goal of this project was to watch a film or a tv show and then redesign and remake the intro sequence to it using After Effects.

I'm kind of a fan of crime dramas so I decided to watch the 1997 film L.A. Confidential for this project. There's a video game that I really like called L.A. Noire that is heavily inspired by this movie and after hearing so much about the parallels this game and that movie have, I decided to finally watch it so that I could see for myself. For the intro remake I even ended up using one of the songs from the game because I felt it was absolutely perfect for this. I ended up having a blast remaking the intro to this movie.

The vision I had in mind for my remade intro was to almost tell the story of the film but do it without words, just simple shapes and animation. The red circle acting as the suspect that the 3 black circles, acting as detectives, are chasing after. I aimed to incorporate moods like mystery and the suspense so that it fit the film. I'm really proud of how it all came together. It was with this project that I realized I really enjoyed making motion graphics.

Behind the Scenes

For this project I was able to really get into making storyboards for it, since I had a very clear vision in my head of what I wanted this to be. You'll be able to see in the storyboards which parts I ended up changing or cutting out entirely from the final video. Some of the big changes were made due to time constraints and others were just cut out because I didn't like that idea as much anymore.

Motion Graphics

Motion Graphics is the newest of the 4 main skills I work with. However, once I learned the tools to make 2D motion graphics it has quickly become one of my most used skills! If you've looked around at other projects I've featured here on my site, you'll quickly see that I've been able to incorporate some kind of motion graphics almost everywhere.
