Swamp Circus

This painting was made as a print for my sticker club patrons for the month of April, back when sticker club had higher tiers that offered a monthly print.

The theme for April 2021's sticker club was "clowns" but at the time I was also really in the mood to draw something of the creepy-cute variety. So the idea evolved from simply "clowns" to "clown frogs" and I had a really delightful time.

Additional context

At first the design really only started with this frog up here, but as I was making more sketches for potential different directions I started making sketches for a little cast of characters that get together to make a little "swamp circus." And so, the concept for the sticker sheet and the print were born.

Illustration

I've been drawing since I could pick up a pencil, but the past 10+ years are when I really started to seriously study it and improve. I'm very interested in character design and character based illustration. My fondness for big bold colors and fun concepts follows me here as well.

I participated in #Mermay2021 which was a challenge to draw mermaid related paintings every day for the month of May. A good handful of these I liked enough to include in my portfolio. This is the 9th painting in the series.
